West, who had been a consultant for the Clippers organization since 2017, was 87 years old at the time of his passing. "Jerry West's impact on the game of basketball is immeasurable," Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank said in a statement. "He was a champion, a Hall of Famer, and a true innovator. He will be deeply missed by the Clippers organization and the entire basketball community." Born in West Virginia in 1938, West played college basketball at West Virginia University before being drafted by the Minneapolis Lakers in 1960.
